Cecropia Silk Moth

August 3, 2010

I was walking in the apple orchard the other day and came across this strange creature. It turns out that this fat caterpillar, as large as my thumb, is Hyalophora cecropia.

One strange fact that I found out about it is that once it turns into a beautiful moth it no longer eats. No wonder it has to fatten up now!
